With the arrival of April, spring has sprung, and many people are looking to the outdoors. Despite the recent rainy weather, Tenafly has many parks and recreational areas for the local community to enjoy.
Tenafly has a total 424 acres of open space land, parks, and the municipal center. Within the municipal center lands there is the 330 acre Lost Brook Preserve, the 52 acre Tenafly Nature Center, and a 34 acre strip of land. Without a doubt this is the largest tract of land devoted to outdoor public enjoyment. Tenafly Nature Center is operated by a non-profit organization, Tenafly Nature Center Association. The Center has professional naturalist on staff to give programs about the local birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. The Center also has live animal displays and a natural history exhibit. This link will to you to the Tenafly Nature Center for more info.
Not to short change the parks, for they also have much to offer. You will find small neighborhood parks that have playgrounds for children. Play fields for citizens of Tenafly to play soccer, football, and softball. Courts for the tennis and basketball devotees to sharpen their game. A skate Park, track or walking path for walking/jogging, and for winter sports there is a place to sled, cross-country ski, snow-shoe and ice skate. Some of the parks have meeting rooms available to the public by permit.
Nearby there is Greenbrook Sanctuary, a sanctuary – not a park, consisting of 165 acres. One hundred twenty of those acres are in Tenafly. The Sanctuary has a river view, waterfalls, and woodlands. Since it is a sanctuary, there is a membership fee and restrictions.
